‘Paranormal Activity 2′ Possibly To Be Produced By Paramount
Paranormal Activity was such a suprise hit for Paramount, that according to LA Times, a sequel production is now in talks. Paranormal Activity had an increadibly low cost of $15,000 to produce and paid off in $62.5 million nationwide sales so far. That’s by far the biggest return on investment for Paramount Pictures possibly in it’s entire history.
“We have the rights on a worldwide basis to do Paranormal 2 and we’re looking to see if that makes some sense,” Paramount Chairman Brad Grey said in an interview quoted by LA Times.
People often compare Paranormal Activity to The Blair Witch Project – a 1999’s indie horror phenomenon also with very low budget and $140 million worth of sales. However, Book of Shadow – a sequel to The Blair Witch Project didn’t perform as well – it has only grossed $26.4 million, which is not bad, but still a lot lower than the original sensational figures.
So it remains uncertain whether sequel to Paranormal Activity will be as good as the original and whether Oren Peli – who has directed Paranormal Activity – is a one-shot novelty, or a new genious.
