Rob Liefeld, who alongside writer Fabian Nicieza created the Marvel Comic’s character Wade Wilson (aka Deadpool), has confirmed a few tidbits regarding development of the new Deadpool feature film.

First off, the rumor mill has been spreading speculation that Ryan Reynolds was set to lose his role as Deadpool after being cast as Hal Jordan in The Green Lantern.  Liefeld confirms this is pure rumor.

From robertliefeld:

Deadpool movie- YES! Ryan Reynolds is on board!!!

Back in June and July Reynolds stated that Deadpool would appear in costume and that he would also “break the 4th wall”, the term used to describe when a character talks to the audience.

“Break the fourth wall? Oh yeah, he’s got to,” Reynolds said. “I want to see him break the Great Wall.”

“He’s going to have the scarred-up face, he’s going to be in the suit — and, it’s going to be incredible.”

Liefeld has also used Twitter to confirm these two statements.

Deadpool movie checklist- DP in costume-check! Breaking 4th wall-check! Loads of killing-double check!

Many fans of Deadpool were disappointed over how the character was portrayed in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.  Liefeld’s recent tweeting further validates earlier comments from Reynolds that the new film will be authentic to the source material, news that is sure to make Deadpool fans very happy indeed.

Finally, notice the guy with the glowing eye in the back upper left of the above Deadpool image?  That’s Cable, a kick-ass Marvel character created by Liefeld as the leader of The New Mutants who at one point joins the X-Men and at another shares a comic alongside Deadpool (titled, of all things, ‘Cable and Deadpool’).

Liefeld’s latest tweet indicates discussions have been taking place to introduce Cable into the X-Men feature films.  I’m not sure if that would include the new Deadpool movie, but nonetheless, Deadpool/Cable fans will also be pleased to hear this news.

From robertliefeld:

Also excited to discuss possibilities of Cable in future X-films!!!

Deadpool’s release date remains unknown though it is expected it won’t hit theaters until 2011/2012.  Reynolds will be seen as The Green Lantern first, which is scheduled for release June 17, 2011.
