Producer Robert Evans (The Phantom / The Saint / How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days) has signed on to adapt the 1970s ITV series UFO into a feature film.

The original UFO television series, which ran for 26 episodes and was very adult oriented, followed a covert military group known as SHADO that was set up to fight against Aliens who come to Earth to harvest human organs.

UFO was the creation of Gerry Anderson and his then wife Sylvia Anderson who are best known as the creators of Thunderbirds and Space 1999.

Made in the 70’s the story was set in a then futuristic 1980.  The new film will be set in 2020.

I hope they can do a good job at it, though I would think a new series would be better.

Cool. I hope the film includes some of the show’s heavy stuff, such as allowing innocents to die for the sake of the mission. I would also like to see the HQ on the moon, as they were going to have it in the unrealised second season. Makes more sense.

Lets just hope they do talk to Gerry Anderson and let him have some imput into the movie, then modernise accordingly for a twenty first century viewer. The storyline was always a great idea and way before its time, Neil Armstrong had not walked on the moon when Gerry started to make this programme. By the way the set for space 1999 was the revamped ufo moon base set which was cancelled before being made…
