Rose McGowan Confirms She’s Still ‘Red Sonja’

Red Sonja

Back in June Executive Producer Joe Gatta announced that a new feature film based on the Marvel character Red Sonja was definitely going ahead sometime in 2010 (perhaps kicking off in February).

Rose McGowan (Charmed /Grindhouse / Planet Terror), who was cast an eternity ago in the lead role, has now confirmed that she’s still contracted to play the sword wielding flame-haired heroine.

From Rose McGowan on Twitter:

I am still contracted to do it Red Sonja. Hopefully Filming in ‘10 not ‘09.

Red Sonja will be directed by Douglas Aarniokoski (Highlander: Endgame).  Aarniokoski was also assistant director on The Crow: City of Angels and Resident Evil: Extinction.

The film will be an origin story that ignores the 1985 movie that starred Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger (thankfully).

An exact release date is not yet known although Gatta also recently confirmed a 2010 release is being aimed at.
