Warner Bros. have announced the release date for Richard Kelly’s sci-fi horror film The Box has been brought forward a month.  Previously scheduled to premiere on November 25th, it will now debut on October 30.

The Box tells the story of Norma and Arthur Lewis and their young child, who receive a simple wooden box (with a button) as a gift from a mysterious stranger.  The stranger tells them that the box will magically bestow them $1 million dollars if they press the button, but that the consequences of doing so will be the death of another person elsewhere whom they don’t know.  The movie follows the consequences as they face and act upon their moral dilemma.

Richard Kelly, who both wrote the screenplay and directed The Box, is most popularly known for having written the story behind the cult Donnie Darko.   Kelly adapted The Box from a the 1970 short story ‘Button, Button’ by author Richard Matheson

The Box stars James Marsden (aka Cyclops in X-Men) and Cameron Diaz as the married couple Arthur and Normal Lewis.

We’re still waiting for a trailer.
