It seems sci-fi westerns are on the agenda.  Hot on the heels of the announcement that Josh Hartnett would be starring in a sci-fi post apocalyptic western titled Gunslinger, Fox has given a script commitment to a new sci-fi western TV series from Chuck executive producer Scott Rosenbaum.

The untitled sci-fi series is described as an “epic western with a sci-fi twist.”  The story will follow a “gunslinger caught between worlds” and, according to Rosenbaum, will feature a nod to the Planet of the Apes.

The untitled project comes from Warner Bros. TV and McG’s studio-based Wonderland Sound and Vision.

Rosenbaum will executive produce alongside Terminator Salvation’s McG and fellow Chuck producer Peter Johnson.

“What I’m really interested in is the revamping of the Western genre where you still have all of the iconic Western themes and iconic Western tropes, but the idea is that it will feel incredibly contemporary and will introduce the Western to a whole new generation,” Rosenbaum said.

No further details are to hand.
