Screenwriter Chris Morgan Talks ‘Gears of War’
Screenwriter Chris Morgan has told MTV that the feature-film adaptation of Gears of War “looks incredibly good.”
“I think the gamer side is going to be thrilled with it,” said Morgan. “All the stuff you want to see, we put that in there and then we blow it out a little more, even. Now it’s just a matter of honing in on all of the character arcs and determining production types of things.”
Morgan, who penned Wanted and Fast & Furious, submitted the final draft of the script back in January.
“A draft went in and we’re talking about it now and we’re budgeting it out,” Morgan told MTV.
Gears of War tells the story of a former P.O.W. who is civilization’s best hope in their fight against the Locust Horde, a race of creatures who emerged from underneath an alien planet’s surface, intent on eliminating humankind.
From all accounts the film is going to be big – so huge in fact that direct Les Wiseman (Underworld / Underworld: Evolution / Live Free or Die Hard) intends to make Gears of War into a Trilogy.
“The hope is that we’re wanting to do three movies and really cover the bases on everything,” Wiseman told journo’s from Bloody-Disgusting.com whilst walking the red carpet at the premiere of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. “Basically a harder edged Lord Of The Rings.”
“It’s huge,” Morgan now adds. “One of the things they’re really talking about now is the budget of the film and how big of a spectacle this is going to be. My argument is, look at the underlying material. Look at the game and the scenario — the fact that the world is being taken over by the Locust, it has to be huge.”
Gears of War will be released sometime in 2010.
