Taylor Kitsch Wants To Go Dark With ‘Gambit’

Gambit

X-Men Origins: Wolverine producer Lauren Shuler has made no secret of the fact that her favorite X-Men character is Gambit.  As the powerhouse behind the X-Men feature film franchise there’s no doubt in our mind that Shuler’s love for the character is playing a huge part in why as we speak internal discussions are underway on how to develop a Gambit spinoff movie.

There’s no doubt that 20th Century Fox are keen to do something with Gambit, so much so that there’s already been talk of X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer helming the flick.

“Nothing would please me more than to bring Bryan [Singer] on for another movie,” Donner said. “And, if it’s like the first Deadpool or the first Gambit, I think, I mean, I hope he would be interested.”

There’s also no doubt that Taylor Kitsch, who played Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine would jump at the chance to reprise the role.

“I’m just excited to go deeper into Gambit. It’s a flattering thing when people say that the only shitty part about the character is we didn’t see enough of him. If that’s the case, bring it on. I want to go deep into Gambit,” Kitsch recently told Rotten Tomatoes.

“He has so many more colours to explore. I want to go dark with that cat. There are so many things I want people to see of him and he really is his own deal. In Wolverine he was very much moving the story along. If I can have some moments where you go deeper into Gambit’s back-story and why he was the way he was at that poker table — that’s a fun thing to explore.”

Kitsch also believes he’s improved his ability to deliver bigger action fight scenes as Gambit.

“I have the tools now to do some larger fights and I’d be really excited to get a chance to do that, too. I have so many ideas in my mind right now!”

Whilst some people have speculated it’s too early in the game for Kitsch to command the lead in his own big budget feature film, we tend to think his performance in Wolverine proved he has a commanding screen presence. It is true that Gambit won’t be appearing in X-Men: First Class and it seems highly unlikely that he will appear in the Wolverine sequel (but not impossible).  Whether or not he’ll feature in a larger capacity in the Deadpool movie also remains an unknown.

Still, none of these questions concern us because somehow we think what Shuler wants Shuler will get, and we’re guessing she has bigger plans for Gambit than simple cameo’s.

We just have to be patient to find out what those plans will be.
