Terminator Salvation Stars (Mostly) Don’t Want To Know The Future
If there was a chance you could know the future, would you want to? Parade.com’s Jeanne Wolf put that question to the stars of Terminator Salvation. Here are their answers and, for the record, we’re with Christan Bale:
Christian Bale: “Listen, I couldn’t resist it. Of course I would want to hear about it. I’m not sure how I’d be able to handle it, but who wouldn’t? I would, actually. I would love to hear it.”
Sam Worthington: “Not particularly, no. I think the best thing about living on this big ball of mud is that we don’t know what’s going to happen. We don’t even know why we’re here. So having that kind of knowledge of what’s to come, I think, is quite frightening. I like seeing where this adventure takes me.”
Common: “Nah, I wouldn’t want to know because I feel like I would be trying to change things. And as much as I can get into worrying and be like, ‘Oh, man,’ I know these things that I go through are necessary. And I wouldn’t change the things that are necessary for me to grow. Life is not meant to be perfect.”
Moon Bloodgood: “I wonder, if I knew the future, if it was bad, would I then look at everything as pointless? If it was good — I don’t know. I think it would change the way I live my life. And I’m such a worrywart. It would maybe make me worry more. But maybe it would change what’s important to me. I don’t know.”
Anton Yelchin: “There are other things I want to know more than the future, I guess. Like what I’m having for dinner tonight. In terms of the future, if you think about the future all the time — it sounds cheesy, like some cliche you read in one of those books you get for like $5.99 or whatever — but if you keep focusing on the future, you’re going to miss what’s going on around you right now. And everything we do is working towards the future. That’s not to say you should do things right now that you know will be detrimental to you in the future. But yeah, that’s how I feel about it.”
McG: “I would not want to know the future. I think it would take the mystery out of life. And I like being surprised. And you take your lumps. And you take your victories. And you keep on rolling. I think that’s part of what makes the joy of every day.”
Bryce Dallas Howard: “Yes, actually, because I believe that free will is stronger than destiny. And if there was something that I didn’t like, I would like to actively work against it, which is exactly what happens in this film. He has his destiny and he’s working towards that. And then sometimes there are things and challenges that come in the way of that. And then the future gets rewritten.”
Terminator Salvation is currently showing in the US, and opens in:
