Terrible Box Office Performance For ‘Surrogates’ & ‘Pandorum’

Surrogates and Pandorum

Touchstone Pictures’ Surrogates and Overture Films’ Pandorum continue to perform poorly at the box office.

Surrogates has only managed to pull in $19M to date (domestically) whilst Pandorum has struggled for its $5.8M.

By comparision, Surrogates has drawn 23% of its $80M budget and Pandorum has pulled 13% of its $40M budget.

On paper Surrogates looks like the clear winner, but it may not stay so clear cut.  Surrogates has already enjoyed the best of its run in key territories such as the UK and Australia, whilst Pandorum was only released in the UK yesterday and won’t see Australia until February 4, 2010.

With a significantly smaller budget, Pandorum can afford to perform worse than Surrogates whilst remaining on par as an investment vehicle. I’m guessing the gap between the two movies in terms of revenue percentage to budget will shrink over the coming months.

Of course, all this speculation could change once the worldwide figures for both films are in, although the possibilitiy exists such figures may pull in favor of Pandorum (as a percentage or budget). To date, Surrogates has only drawn $8M worldwide, whilst the figures for Pandorum are not yet known.
