“The Time Traveler’s Wife” Television Series
Looks like a weekend opening gross of almost $20M was enough for ABC to clinch a deal to take the story of The Time Traveler’s Wife further.
According to a report on The Wrap, ABC have announced they’ll be working with Friends creator Marta Kauffman and Warner Bros. Television to adapt the story into a television series beginning with a pilot.
The Time Traveler’s Wife follows a man named Henry who has a gene that causes him to spontaneously time travel. The story deals with the complications his affliction causes to his relationship as he pursues a normal life with the woman he loves, appearing and disappearing throughout the timeline of her life.
The film version stars Eric Bana as Henry and Rachel McAdams as his wife Clare.
The story is based on the bestselling novel first published in 2003 from author Audrey Niffenegger.
Apparently ABC has been talking about turning the story into a TV series for years, believing that the complex plot of the novel will work well in series form.
I’m sure it will since the story spans the better part of a century.
Marta Kauffman will write and executive produce.

Why didn’t they just pick up Journeyman?

I think The Time Traveler’s Wife will work better in a series than it did in a movie. The movie was good but didn’t encompass the love and romance that was felt in the book. I think the series can explore the characters and plots more thoroughly and allow the chance for character development in the other characters in the book that the movie left out.
