Throughout the month of May we’ve been hosting a competition in conjunction with Sideshow Collectible’s to determine which are the ‘Top 10 Best Aliens in History‘.  The prize: a Medicom Toy Corporation’s high-quality Alien Vinyl Collectible Doll (VCD) valued at US $69.99!!

We would like to thank all 178 people who took the time to enter the competition. The criteria for selecting our winner, as per the competition guidelines, required that we compile all the entries received to find out which 10 aliens received the most votes with the winning entry to be selected from one of those.

There were many great and thoughtful entries submitted.  We also received a high number of individual votes for very obscure alien names including those from classic sci-fi feature films of the 50’s and 60’s (some that we had to double check to see if they weren’t made up!).  By the final day of the competition we had narrowed down our picks to three:

cjjc: The best alien is Dark Star’s “beachball with feet” as its a fine example of the infinite diversity of the universe.

stevelettieri: BEST ALIEN IN HISTORY is The Thing from Carpenter’s version. Why? Crawling head with spider legs! “You gotta be f-ing kidding!”

arthurchappell: Best alien in history – Kosh (Babylon Five) no half-human sympathies here, talked in riddles, kept his own agenda, utterly alien to the end

Unfortunately for cjjc and arthurchappell neither Kosh nor Dark Star’s beachball made it into the final ten, and so the winner is @stevelettieri! Congratulations Steve!

Just in case you haven’t been fortunate enough to see the crawling spider head from The Thing before, here’s the scene in which it makes its brief appearance (this is graphic horror, you’ve been warned!):

Nice list. Although as far as aliens go, # 2 is by far the most”alien” alien.
