Whilst promoting his new movie The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 filmmaker Tony Scott has called “time out” on the new Alien prequel.

In April 20th Century Fox Chairman Tom Rothman confirmed development of the Alien prequel film stating that Fox hoped Ridley Scott, the director of the original Alien, would direct the prequel. A month later Tony Scott (Ridley’s brother) confirmed relative unknown Carl Rinsch was attached to direct the film.  Then EW reported that Fox insiders were saying Rinsch didn’t have the support of 20th Century Fox who were “not interested in greenlighting a prequel unless [Ridley] Scott himself directs.”

In the latest instalment, ComingSoon.net tried to quiz Tony Scott on the status of the film, to which he replied:

“I’m going to call a time out on that one.  I don’t want to get caught in the middle. We’re in process on that, but I don’t have enough information to bring it to this table, but we’re going to make it.”

Although no director is officially attached at this stage, at the very least we can take some good from Scott’s comments – that despite Fox’s reservations, they’re still going to make the new film.
