‘Transformers 2′ Breaks Wednesday Release Box Office Record
When it first opened Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen entered the history books with the biggest Wednesday box office opening in history ($16M).
By the end of the day the robot smash-fest had earned $60.6M to take the record for the biggest Wednesday release of all time.
The previous record holder was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix with $44.2M.
It’s $16M opening haul also snared it the title of ‘all-time third best opening for a film.’ Only The Dark Knight ($18.5M) and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith ($16.9M) have fared better.
The above numbers related to the US domestic market however the film is also drawing massive box office numbers internationally. The latest foreign box office reports indicate the film has already taken $59.4M, $18.7M of which has been derived from the UK alone.
Terminator Salvation is presently the biggest earning action film of the year on the international circuit with almost $196.5M but in just one day Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has earned more than a quarter of Terminator Salvation’s total box office tally to date.
