‘Transformers’ Sequel Has Same Tone As The First Movie

If the trailers for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen have convinced you the sequel will be darker and more geared towards an adult audience, think again.  Co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci recently told Sci Fi Wire that the sequel has the same tone as the first movie.

“Actually, I think you’ll find that it has all the same tone of the first movie,” Kurtzman said. “The story’s a little smoother, and it’s a little bit darker, so it does dip in there a little bit, but it has all the same humor, if not more than the first movie.”

Any final doubt as to whether or not the sequel would be darker and aimed at a more mature audience was also erased when Michael Bay released his ShoWest footage online last week.  The clip has since been pulled, but to recap it showed a two minute clip of Sam complaining about his desire for a normal life and Bumblebee crying actual water (let’s say ‘fluid’ just to be sure) when told he would be left behind in favor of college.  Without question the clip demonstrated the new film is for children.

The only question on our lips is whether or not the action sequences will also be delivered in the same way as the first movie – full of shaking, unwatchable close-ups.

For kids, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will no doubt be an enjoyable and fun movie.  We however will be waiting for DVD.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opens June 24.
