Earth Vs Moon

Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick recently made headlines as being the writing team behind Sony’s Spiderman spinoff, Venom.  You might be interested to know that they also have another sci-fi project underway titled Earth Vs Moon – and it is said to be epic.

We first heard about Earth vs Moon more than a year ago when The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the “sci fi epic” had been purchased by Universal Studio’s who, in turn, had tapped Scott Stuber (The Kingdom / Scott Pilgrim vs The World / The Wolf Man) to produce the film.

Since that announcement there has been no news regarding the film – until now.  Recently on the set of Zombieland Reese and Wernick were asked if they were working on any other projects (apart from Venom), to which Reese replied:

We are, we are. We sold a project to Universal called Earth vs. Moon which is an idea that we had. It’s a science-fiction epic war movie ala, I don’t know, Braveheart or, uh… whatever things can we compare it to. It’s sort of got a little Star Wars in it, a little Braveheart, a little 300 in it. It’s like it’s sort of exactly what the title suggests. It’s big and crazy and, I mean, it’s gonna be awesome.

It’s a colony on the moon. And the colony on the moon is fighting Earth. We’re very, very excited about it. And we’ve also turned in a draft on that and are waiting to hear back, so we’re in early stages on each of those.

That’s about all we know about this cool sounding “sci fi epic”.  We do know the release date had been tentatively set for some time in 2010, though now it seems a 2010 release is highly unlikely given that the film hasn’t progressed beyond script stage, as far as we’re aware.
