There is a lot of speculation buzzing around the internet that Iron Man 2 may feature the on-screen debut of War Machine.

War Machine is basically an Iron Man suit designed specifically for warfare.  In the Iron Man comic series the suit was originally designed by Tony Stark to battle a group of super powered villains, but was later purpose built for Stark’s ally and friend, James Rhodes.

As time rolls on the speculation that War Machine will feature in Iron man 2 is beginning to look less and less like speculation.

First, a toy named the ‘Iron Man – Stealth Operations’ that looks very similar to War Machine has surfaced as a Wal-Mart exclusive.

Next, Robert Downey Jr. was also recently interviewed by EW in which he states that Don Cheadle is “now playing Rhodey and therefore War Machine.” Trailer Addict have kindly edited down the interview (which was primarily related to Downey Jr’s new film ‘The Soloist’) to only include the Iron Man 2 part of the conversation:

Whilst toys and Downey Jr’s comments are by no means official, it seems unlikely Downey Jr. would mention War Machine if War Machine wasn’t going to feature in the Iron Man movies – at least at some point.

If as advertised the film is going to have twice the action as it’s predecessor then perhaps a part of that reason is because the film is going to have twice the number of Iron Men.
