Outland

It seems every second day I report the news that a new remake is underway and today is no exception.

Warner Bros. is getting set to remake Outland, the 1981 space western that originally starred Sean Connery.

The original Outland followed a police marshal stationed at a remote mining colony on Jupiter’s moon Io who discovers a conspiracy that could destroy the entire colony.  When the colonists refuse to help him he’s forced to deal with the situation alone.

Michael Davis (Shoot ‘Em Up / Monster Man) has been tapped to direct the new film which the studios intend to be big – tentpole big.  The new story will take place in a city that orbits the moon and follow a cop who, one week before his retirement,  chooses to take on the conspirators army with help from his overachieving ex-partner and wife’s former boyfriend.

Hollywood Gang Production Gianni Nunnari is producing.

“We loved the original sci-fi film with Sean Connery,” Nunnari said. “At its core, Outland is a version of High Noon in outer space, as two courageous people take a stand against a gang of ruthless conspirators at the highest level.”

I liked the original film too, but I can’t get excited about another remake.  Can you?
