Weaving, McKellen, Serkis All Returning For ‘The Hobbit’
Guillermo del Toro has told Simon Mayo’s BBC 5 Radio Show that his (and Peter Jackson’s) upcoming Hobbit films will see the involvement of at least three key actors from the original Lord of the Rings trilogy.
According to del Toro Hugo Weaving (Elrond), Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Andy Serkis (Gollum) will all return “as the roles they originated in the trilogy.”
Although not actually official, this is nonetheless great news for LOTR fans and will certainly heighten expectation for the two prequel films.
The Hobbit part one will be released in December 2011.
The Hobbit part two will follow in December 2012.
