On Wednesday, the run for the coveted Visual Effects Oscar heated up further with The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ announcing the list of the 7 films in contention. This list will be again be updated to a final list of 3 films on the 2nd of February. The films that are currently vying for the award are Avatar, District 9, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and 2012. Among these seven films, the chances of Avatar and District 9 are quite high as these two films used visual effects to enhance the film and not just for the sake of visual effects. On March 7 we will finally come to know about the winner.
