Dark Matter is a new monthly DVD series where each DVD release will contain a collection of thought provoking and visionary short sci-fi films similar to what you might see in such series as Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits.

Yesterday I posted the news that the creators of Dark Matter are offering the first release of their new DVD series completely free – all you have to do is pay for the postage.

Today I’m posting the news that the team behind Dark Matter are now official sponsors of Sci Fi Scoop.

Ordinarily I recommend to all our readers to support our sponsors since it is our sponsors who make it possible for us to bring you the news.   In the case of Dark Matter I have another and even better reason why you should take an interest in their new DVD series.

The Dark Matter series aims to release quality sci-fi films that the mainstream studio’s consider too ‘deep’ for the masses.  These are the types of films that stretch the imagination and that are spawned from the creative minds of true visionaries.  Many of these are top quality productions that find themselves gathering dust on hidden shelves because they don’t fit the commercial mold.  Many of these, without Dark Matter, you simply would never hear about.

Alexander Vickers, the President and Creative Director of Dreamscape Studios, is the brainchild behind Dark Matter. His desire to release these films on DVD is fueled directly from his own experiences of seeing great productions shut down by the commercial film industry. This is what he was told by mainstream studio’s when he and Art Bell pitched their own imaginative series, Zero.Point:

“We can’t show stories about quantum physics, peak oil, synchronicity and energy wars. 99% of audiences are brain dead and advertisers won’t support it anyway!”

If you’ve been following the distributorship woes of Ink then you know that visionary, highly creative film makers need the support of the fans who want to see such films.  Dark Matter is a new vehicle that allows fans to do just that.

We at Sci Fi Scoop are very pleased to have the support of the producers of Dark Matter but it is the reason for the existence of Dark Matter that you should support them.

The first DVD is out now.  Head on over to the official Dark Matter website to order a copy.  All you have to do is pay the postage costs (whilst stocks last).
