Will ‘Battle Angel’ be James Cameron’s Next Film After All?
Battle Angel was meant to be the film that heralded the return of James Cameron. Then it was to be a film shot back to back with Avatar, before it was put completely on hold in favor of Avatar.
It has since been speculated that Battle Angel would be Cameron’s next film, although Cameron himself has done nothing more than stamp a big “mabye” on the idea.
“Maybe, maybe,” Cameron told MTV last month when asked if Battle Angel would be his next film. “We’re going to look at that.”
Now producer Jon Landau, who worked as producer with Cameron on Titanic and Avatar and who will produce Battle Angel, has given fans their biggest hint yet that Battle Angel is finally on the way and may, in all likelihood, be Cameron’s next film.
“We’ll go on to Battle Angel Alita and The Dive, a love story in the middle of a dive,” Landau told French magazine Le Film. “James is directing both projects.”
It is possible that if Avatar is a major success then Avatar 2 could become Cameron’s next film. However, I should point out that the project status of Battle Angel changed in March of this year and was, again, amended this week. At present the project status isn’t defined, but the previous status related to development of the script, so it might be reasonable to speculate that the script is now complete.
Either way, all good news for Battle Angel fans, especially since they’ve been waiting a long time (since 2004 when the film was first announced) to see it happen. Now, at the very least, they know its certainly coming up as either Cameron’s next movie, or the one after. With Landau’s latest comment and with a recent change of project status, odds are looking good for Battle Angel to be up next.

:/ … Maybe I’m crazy, but even though the Battle Angel project might have been officially “announced” in 2004, I remember first hearing about it in the late 90s. Is that damn thing EVER going to get made?

Yes, I agree Brad. It’s been an awfully long wait, and I feel that “The Dive” may be made first, so Cameron can have a well-earned break from sci-fi action. I wish that Cameron films Battle Angel first, though.

Cameron, long rich and decades stale, more ‘ambitious’ (i.e. fiancially extravagant) than ever thanks to the massive Hollywood
sellout to that most awesome -and unoutted- genocidal regime of all time —across the Pacific.
70 million people STILL ‘missing’ folks.
70 million you’ll NEVER hear a quality mention of in Hollywood.
70,000,000 —and counting…
ENJOY your circle-jerk fantasies everybody! -Afterall, people
are dying for them!
