Zack Snyder Wins ShoWest Director Of The Year Award

Zack Snyder has been named Director of the Year Award at ShoWest in recognition for his accomplishment in bringing the “unfilmable” Watchmen graphic novel to film.

Watchmen actually was one of those projects where, when I read it, I was afraid of it.  I loved it, I just wasn’t sure how it was going to be a movie,” the 43 year old Snyder said.

“For me, the process of making Watchmen and 300 into movies was about making something personal.  It’s like getting a picture of your kids and having someone say, ‘Do you want to make this into a movie?’ You know how you feel about it instantly.”

Watchmen has so far fallen below box office expectations and has, as expected, received a wide range of opinion.  Despite this, there are many who consider it an amazing work of filmmaking that few directors could equal.

“It’s a difficult movie and challenging, and some people get it and some people don’t — and that’s kind of how the graphic novel is,” he explains.

Showest is one of several motion picture industry conventions held by Nielsen Business Media’s Film Group and is considered to be one of the largest and most important gatherings of theater operators in the world.
