Sony Pictures’ viral marketing for Roland Emmerich’s 2012 continues over at This is the End with Woody Harrelson (who plays Charlie Frost in 2012) presenting a new video that discusses the Hadron Collider. Watch it below:
Charlie Frost’s video campaign began back in January and since then numerous video’s have been posted. Visit This is the End and look through the monthly archives for some interesting viewing and really quite accurate reporting.

2012 follows an academic researcher played by John Cusack (1408 / Martian Child) who leads a group of people in a fight to survive as apocalyptic events unfold on the day the current cycle of the Mayan Calendar ends.
It stars Amanda Peet (X Files: I Want to Believe), Woody Harrelson (A Scanner Darkly / White Men Can’t Jump), Oliver Platt (Martial Child / Ash Wednesday) and Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon / Predator 2).

They’ve just added a new video to their This is the End website where actor Woody Harrelson (who plays Charlie Frost in 2012) presents underground style broadcasts about the end of the world. In the latest video, Frost explains the connection between the I-Ching (Book of Change) and 2012.

Sony Pictures have ramped up their marketing campaign to promote Roland Emmerich’s 2012. They’ve launched a website titled This is the End where actor Woody Harrelson (who plays Charlie Frost in 2012) presents an underground transmission style broadcast about ‘the end of the world’. Actually, the site may have been launched some time ago and we’ve only just found it since the first posts date back to the beginning of January.
At the time of writing this there are five viral videos already posted to the site, two of which I’ve included below.
Here’s the interesting thing. If you think what you’re about to hear in these videos is purely fictional for marketing purposes, think again. Whilst 2012 is a fictional movie based upon tons of compelling evidence, these Charlie Frost videos are dealing with factual subject matter and with whats been posted so far, quite accurately so. This could be the first viral marketing campaign that actually has real substance to it in addition to promoting a film.
Columbia has launched the Institute for Human Continuity (IHC) website in preparation for the release of its epic apocalyptic movie, 2012. The site is pro to say the least and covers a lot of information.
“The IHC’s comprehensive research has confirmed with 94% certainty that in the year 2012 cataclysmic forces will decimate our planet and much of its inhabitants. Though many will not survive, we at the IHC believe it is our duty to do what we can to prepare. By investing in preparatory and escape initiatives, we can guarantee the survival of a small population of the human race.
Furthermore, we believe that every man, woman and child left on Earth should know how to provide for their own safety. The IHC has committed resources to education and knowledge sharing to ensure that those who cannot escape our planet will understand the threats they face in 2012 and how best to prepare for them.”

Previously scheduled for release on July 10, Roland Emmerich’s sci-fi apocalypse movie 2012 will now be released on November 13. According to Sony the re-scheduled release date relates to the fact that it wants to avoid 2012 conflicting with a host of already planned Sony summer releases. Basically Sony believe 2012 will have less competition in November.
Sony distribution president Rory Bruer said, “We’ve had such success with the James Bond films in November that we wanted a big tentpole film in that slot this year. We’ve got so many films in the summer that this is the perfect answer to that.”
