Batman Begins Limited Edition Blu-Ray Giftset

Thanks to a heads up from Slashfilm I’ve become aware that Amazon have reduced their Limited Edition Batman Begins Blu-Ray Giftset from $49.99 to $14.49 (those are US prices).  That’s only 6 cents more expensive than the current second hand price and is actually cheaper than the Blu-Ray on its own.

The Limited Edition Batman Begins Blu-Ray Giftset includes the original Batman Begins Blu-Ray, a 32-page exclusive Dark Knight Prologue book, 16-page comic book of the first 6 minutes of The Dark Knight, a Batman Begins lenticular and five collectible post cards. You also get a discount ticket to see The Dark Knight in theaters which should be fun to try and use now that it’s no longer in theaters.

That’s a great deal for this collection.

Christian Bale Contracted For ‘Batman 3′, But Chris Nolan Isn’t

The Dark Knight

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne in 'The Dark Knight'

Speaking with Total Film, Christian Bale has confirmed that he’s under contract to reprise his role as the Dark Knight in a third Batman film.  He acknowledges he wouldn’t want to do a third Batman film without the right story but adds that in the end he has no choice, unlike Christopher Nolan who isn’t under contract.

“Will we do a third movie? It’s got to be the right story. You can’t make something like The Dark Knight and then come out with something disappointing,” he said.  “The fact is, I have to! I’ve signed up! Chris doesn’t. So I’m in a bit of a fix if he says he doesn’t want to!”

He also states how delighted he was to see Heath Ledger win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar and for Ledger’s family to accept the award, adding also that he wasn’t surprised The Dark Knight didn’t win more Oscars.

“I’m not surprised by The Dark Knight not getting more Oscars though. I’m not really surprised by anything to do with awards. Hey listen, awards or not it’s a wonderful movie. Chris Nolan did such a fantastic job of it and you look back at the history of the Oscars – some of the best movies never got shit.”

We completely share his view.

New ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum’ Trailer

I was impressed with the first Batman: Arkham Asylum game trailer.  This second trailer shows more in-game footage but that hasn’t soured my first impressions as often is the case.   From initial impressions, this game will do the Caped Crusader justice.

Even if you’re not into these types of games, check out the trailer anyway as it’s really quite cool:

Will Sam Worthington be the next Batman?

Christian Bale faces Sam Worthington in 'Terminator Salvation'

Christian Bale faces Sam Worthington in 'Terminator Salvation'

Sam Worthington has been tipped to replace Christian Bale as the next Batman, according to a report on Australia’s leading news website.

From News.com.au:

Industry gossip now suggests the rising Australian star could score the part of Batman in the third instalment of the successful prequel franchise.

That could mean replacing Bale, his Terminator co-star and The Dark Knight lead, whose profile was damaged after his infamous “me, me, me” meltdown on the Terminator set, which recently hit the internet.

Is this just a fanciful rumor without substantiation?  I would suggest it is and have found nothing to verify the claim

I also find it difficult to believe that after his monumental success in the role that Christian Bale wouldn’t return as the caped crusader.   That said, I find it even more difficult to believe that if he did give up the role that Worthington would take it.  Worthington is already on track to become a mega-star as a result of appearing in three major blockbusters over the next year alone (Terminator Salvation, Avatar, and Clash of the Titans).   Avatar is likely to be the biggest film of the year and, from all reports, one of the most ground breaking films of all time.   Given this it seems highly unlikely that Worthington would risk setting his career back by accepting a role that would result in him being compared to Bale in what can only be described as impossible shoes to fill.  Bale has made the characters of Bruce Wayne and Batman his own and, at least for now, that’s just the way it is no matter how talented Worthington or any other would-be Batman might be.

Still, as far as rumors go, it’s an interesting one.

Today’s sci fi news in a nutshell

SupernaturalA couple of days ago I wrote a single post covering all the sci fi related news of the day.  That seemed to work well from both a writing and reading perspective.  What I might try from hereon is writing one post to cover the bulk of the news of the day and individual posts for specific, mind blowing news.  That way you’ll know if it’s a post on Sci Fi Scoop it’s of value because it will either contain a decent summary of the day’s sci fi news or something big and worthy of its own post.

Hugo Awards – Nominations for the 2009 Hugo Awards of 2009 are now open.  The Hugo Awards are the Academy Awards of science fiction.  If you don’t know what a Hugo is, take a look at this page where you can see the official definitions of what the Hugo Awards are, including the types of ‘best of’ categories available for nomination.  Anyone can vote, but it’ll cost you US $50 for a membership to get the rights.  Want to have your say?  Go here. One sci fi news article to bind them all

Sam Worthington in Terminator:SalvationWell, today I’m going to do something a little different.  Whereas on other days I keep each individual article centred on an individual subject, today I’ll keep it short and sweet.  All the news that I would have written various articles for throughout the day will be in this one post.  Yay, I hear you cry, for now not only do I not have to spend my day writing, you don’t have to spend your day reading!  Ok, on to the news we go:

Battlestar Galactica – As the premiere of the last half of the final season approaches, the internet is buzzing with fans guessing who the final Cylon will be.  Sci Fi Scoop’s pick is Lieutenant Gaeta, and it seems this is the majority view. There’s a poll go ing on over at HubDub, and at the time of writing this Gaeta leads the poll with 21%.  A close second is ‘one of the pilots on the basestar in “Revelations”.  Add your vote to the mix if you want here.
