Here’s a behind-the-scenes featurette on Michael David Lynch’s award winning independent short sci-fi film Burden.
Burden follows the story of a lone ‘Watcher’ named Calik (Grant Weiss) who, on the eve of an Alien invasion, must decide between his sworn duty to flee the planet or defy his instructions and battle the alien threat to save Earth.

It’s been a great few weeks for Michael David Lynch and his short independent sci-fi film Burden.
First, Burden received four nominations from the Action on Film (AOF) International Film Festival including Best Sci Fi Film, Best Sound Design, Best VFX and Best Special Effects - Short.
The film then premiered July 25 to a sell out crowd, prompting the Laemmle Theater to quickly schedule a second unplanned screening which again sold out.
Now Burden has won the ‘Best VFX’ award at the AOF International Film Festival.
“The VFX took 3 years to finish using an FTP server to work with people all over the USA, ” Lynch said.
Michael David Lynch’s short sci-fi film Burden has premiered to a sell out crowd – twice.
The film was scheduled to premiere on Saturday at the Laemmle Theater in Pasadena. After every seat was pre-sold, the theater quickly added a second 5:15 screening to cater to the demand – and it immediately sold out again.
Action on Film International festival Director Del Weston said Burden was the first film of 2009 to get a second screening because of ticket sales.

It stars Grant Weiss as Calik and features the voice of Peter Cullen (aka Optimus Prime in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen).

The film has been nominated for ‘Best Sci Fi’ at the Action on Film International Film festival, as well as Best Sound Design and Best Special Effects. The AOF awards will be handed out on July 31. Additionally Burden has been nominated for Best Film USA at the International Film Festival in Ireland.
Burden will see its world premiere at the Laemmle Theater in Pasadena on July 25 at 4pm.
