Amber Valletta as Angie in 'Gamer'

A handful of new images from Gerard Butler’s new sci-fi actioner Gamer have been posted by the guys at First Showing.

Featured are colorful images of Amber Valletta (Angie) that  contrast starkly against the grungy, dirty look depicted by the trailer.  The images are apparently of her avatar in what is basically a real life version of The Sims.

The gallery below includes images via First Showing and an additional new official image from Gamer’s Facebook gallery.  Click on the thumbnails to enlarge.

Trailer For Gerard Butler’s ‘Gamer’ Finally Released

Gerard Butler stars as Kable in 'Gamer'

Gerard Butler stars as Kable in 'Gamer'

It’s been a very long wait but here it is, the trailer for Gerard Butler’s new sci-fi actioner Gamer.

In Gamer Gerard Butler (300) plays Kable, a death row inmate who has become the champion of an online game called ‘Slayers’. The story takes place in a future where mind-control technology has become the norm and the game ‘Slayers’ provides humans the ability to control other humans on a mass scale. To those that run the game Kable is nothing more than a human bot – a simulation. But to those who resist oppression, he is the key to overthrowing a high-tech system of slavery.

Gamer also stars Milo Ventimiglia, best known for his role as Peter Petrelli in NBC’s Heroes, as well as Michael C. Hall of the popular serial killer series, Dexter.

Gamer will be released September 4 2009.

Gerard Butler’s New Sci-Fi Action Film Now Titled ‘Gamer’

Gamer

Early in April 09 Lionsgate announced Gerard Butler’s new sci-fi action flick Game had been renamed to Citizen Game. Obviously they didn’t like that because now they’ve announced the movie will be titled Gamer. Hopefully it ends there as we’re done with updating our tags!  Fortunately it seems it will end there because an official website with the new name has gone live at http://gamerthemovie.com together with a new tag line:  Gamer – Who’s playing you?  There’s not much at the site, but you can sign up for updates.

Coinciding with the announcement UGO have premiered a new (marginally) interactive poster for the film which is reall quite cool.  Can you guess which face lies beneath Gerard Butler’s? Check it out:

Gerard Butler’s ‘Game’ Renamed To ‘Citizen Game’

Citizen Game

It seems a few days ago Lionsgate announced (via Twitter) that Gerard Butler’s sci-fi actioner Game was no more.  Enter Citizen Game.

From Twitter:

This is also the first official confirmation that the movie would finally be released, and that the scheduled date of 9th September was still moving ahead.

Trailer For Gerard Butler’s ‘Game’ Leaked Online

game_butler1

No one seems to know what is happening with Gerard Butler’s new cerebral sci-fi actioner Game. Despite a cerebral story that boasts an excellent cast including Michael C. Hall (Dexter) and Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes), the film didn’t go so well in its 2008 test screenings.  As a result it’s release date was delayed to the 4th September 2009 and nothing has been heard of it since. As a result of the silence, some people have speculated that the movie might not even see the light of day.

Now it seems we have our first Game news – the Italian trailer has been leaked online. Sure it’s not official, it’s in Italian, it’s of average quality and is supported poorly by a grating recording of Marilyn Manson’s “Sweet Dream’s”, but it’s the first glimpse into the movie we have.  Perhaps more importantly, it offers hope to many Butler fans that the movie will in fact be released after all.   Watch the trailer now (for as long as it is available):

Sci Fi Actioner ‘Gamer’ based upon emerging technology

Gerard Butler in Game

Gerard Butler in Gamer

Mark Neveldine is about to release Crank 2: High Voltage, but are you aware he also has a very promising sci-fi actioner on the way titled Gamer?

Gamer
stars Gerard Butler (of 300 fame) who plays Kable, a death row inmate who has become the champion of an online game called ‘Slayers’.   The story takes place in a future where mind-control technology has become the norm and the game ‘Slayers’ provides humans the ability to control other humans on a mass scale.  To those that run the game ‘Slayers’, Kable is nothing more than a human bot – a simulation.  But to those who resist oppression, he is the key to overthrowing a high-tech system of societal slavery.

Although the tag line of ‘In the near future, you don’t live to play, you’ll play to live‘ might sound a bit chronic, Game may very well be more than just a brainless action movie.  According to Mark Neveldine, who also co-wrote the story, the movie is a cerebral actioner.  Gerard Butler has also been quoted as saying, “It’s layered.”

Perhaps Gamer is even more than simply cerebral – it may even serve as an eye opener or wake up call for many.  Whlist Gamer is first and foremost a sci-fi fiction story, what is most definitely interesting – and scary – about the core of the story is that it is material built upon research of actual real-life technology that is under development.  In fact, not only under development, but also being developed with the intention of being used in the real world.   Fish and RFID chips anyone?

“It’s a guy who needs to get back to his wife and his daughter, and he needs to fight the system. It’s a movie about control, about how we’re controlled, and more and more every day. I mean, this is happening. We really tend to do a lot of research, and have a lot of truth involved in our scripts,” said Neveldine, “and this is another situation where we studied and we’re reading about nanotechnology and we’re learning that we’ll soon all have IPs, just like computers. This is true, this is happening. The cameras are out, Big Brother is getting bigger. And we were a little scared about where this is going, and just wanted to make an ass-kicking film [about it].”

So get ready for a sci fi movie with a strong enough grounding in the modern world that it may both entertain and scare your socks off.

Fear of the future factor aside, with a star like Gerard Butler in the prime seat and with Neveldine co-directing (with fellow Crank famer Brian Taylor), and knowing that there is a lot of thought behind this movie, Gamer is looking promising indeed.

Gamer will be released in theatres September 4 2009.
