Lost Season 5 Episode 5 trailer: ‘This Place is Death’
Infinity - Another super hero movie is on the way with a report from Variety that Rob Liefeld’s popular 90’s comic Youngblood is heading to the big screen. Youngblood was released by Image Comics and has now been aquired by Reliance Big Entertainment for an undisclosed six-figure sum.
Brett Ratner is set to produce the live-action adaptation, although it won’t actually be called Youngblood – it will be renamed to Infinity. Ratner is looking to have Sylvain White (I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer) direct a screenplay from John Collee (Happy Feet / Candy). According to Variety, the project is being fast-tracked.
Brett Ratner told Variety, “Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and Youngblood is one of the few comic books left with tentpole potential. It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted oungblood, but the amazing thing about the guys at Reliance is the speed with which they’re able to move.”
Terminator Salvation – McG attended the New York Comic Con on the weekend and showed fans some early footage which has elevated excitement for the new movie. He also confirmed that the new film would follow the timeline of the movies and have no relation to that of the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. There still remains no clarification on whether Arnold Schwarzenneger or Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) will appear in the film, but McG’s hush hush might indicate they will, at least momentarily. I suppose he has to keep something secret!
Perhaps most amusing, when asked a second time (he had already answered the question once) about Christian Bales blow up on set, he responded loudly with, “What don’t you fucking understand?”. What a classic. This is never going to get old.
Lost – If you’ve seen the latest episode of Lost, there was…well I can’t say it as I always promise to keep spoilers out of news summary posts.. But, doesn’t matter – Sci Fi Wire have posted an interview with Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim where you can learn everything I was going to say. Go here to read the interview, but don’t if you haven’t seen the latest episode.
Lost is back and boy did it return in style. Well, that’s if you have a brain. It seems Lost’s ratings have suffered and some are saying the poor ratings relate to the series displaying its sci-fi roots more than ever before.
If Lost is suffering because more of its sci-fi foundations are beginning to emerge, then I call ‘retard’ to those who are tuning out. The opener of the season, Because You Left, was simply an hour of superb story telling, drama, action, and mystery. It delved more into the time travel aspect of the series than ever before, but it did so in perfect style. The complexities of time travel as story line is often screwed up but not so in Lost – at least so far anyway. In fact, Lost is delivering a take on time travel that appears to be unlike any other before it. In a world of remakes and reboots a little creative imagination is a breath of fresh air.
Because You Left might have dropped on ratings but it certainly wasn’t a result of a drop in quality. If anything the new season has opened with improved quality by having less flash backs/flash forwards and with a faster paced accelerating story. The acting was superb, the storyline just as superb, and well I could go on – but a 9.9 rating on the IMDB really says it all. Read the rest of this entry »
I Am Legend – Francis Lawrence has been out promoting the new NBC magic-meets-a-modern-medieval-monarchy soap opera Kings and has dropped a few comments relating to I Am Legend. Lawrence directed the 2007 movie starring Will Smith and it looks like he wants to do a prequel. Apparently Will Smith wants in as well. There’s only one question on fans lips: why?
Iron Man leads the 7th Annual VES Awards – Golden Globe’s and Academy Awards mean a lot less to many sci-fi fans than do the VES awards, where some of the unsung heroes of the sci-fi genre get their well deserved recognition – those tireless but talented people who bring imagination to life through visual effects. The 7th Annual VES Awards Ceremony is scheduled for February 21, 2009. Of the nominees Iron Man is the stand-out with five category nominations including best visual effects in a visual effects-driven movie, best single visual effect of the year, outstanding animated character in a live-action movie, outstanding models and miniatures in a feature, and outstanding special effects in a movie. It’s up against some stiff competition though – if you want to see the extensive full list of nominations, head on over to The Visual Effects Society. Read the rest of this entry »
Lost is an awesome series for many reasons. Perhaps one of the best things about the series is the way in which it has secretly created more interest in science fiction. I say ’secretly’ because even after such things as monsters, time travel and vanishing islands have featured in the series many people still don’t acknowledge Lost is a sci-fi story.
It’s amusing to see Lost rope in many traditional sci-fi haters without them knowing it. Because the series places heavy emphasis on character development, it has managed to successfully mask its science fiction foundation under the ‘mainstream’ appeal of its character driven drama. By doing so it has effectively nudged potential new sci-fi fans into taking baby steps towards a love of the genre where, ironically, they will discover all good sci-fi is supported by interesting and emotionally involving characters.
Speaking of ‘good’ things, all good things must come to an end and Lost is no different. Though it may seem like it just goes on and on, Lost is in fact a plot driven story that has a beginning, middle, and a definite end. Read the rest of this entry »
Here’s the latest trailer to the new season of Lost which gets underway on January 21st.
If you’ve read Stephen King’s The Dark Tower then you’ll no doubt be happy to hear that Lost and Star Trek producer J.J.Abrams has alluded to his involvement in bringing the novel to the big screen.
The Dark Tower is an epic of seven books that took Stephen King more than two decades to write, and amongst fans of fantasy it is, as they say, a classic. Recognising this fact, Abrams has acknowledged that producing a movie version of The Dark Tower will be, in his words, “every bit as daunting an adaptation as the Lord of the Rings trilogy must have been for Peter Jackson, except we’ve got seven books we’re looking at.”
Fans who are pleased with this news may need to take a breathe though, for Abrams has many projects underway and has categorically stated The Dark Tower will have to wait for him to wrap up both Lost and Star Trek.
“The idea of doing that at the same time Carlton and I are bringing “Lost” to a close is simply not viable,” Abrams said.
But the news is enough, for its a fairly sure bet that most fans of Stephen King and anyone else who has read the series has been waiting to hear this for a very long time.
