Shock Til You Drop are reporting that Derek Mears has been added to the cast of Nimrod Antal’s Predators.
The report indicates that Mears, who played Jason in Friday the 13th, has been cast as a Predator.
The existing cast includes Adrien Brody, Alice Braga, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali and Louiz Ozawa.
Predators will hit screens July 7, 2010.
Here’s an unexpected casting if I ever saw one. Adrien Brody, who has never been in an action film before, has been cast as the lead in Nimrod Antal’s Predators.
Variety are reporting that Brody will play a mercenary that must protect his team members from being hunted by Predators. His character is billed as being similar to the one Arnold Schwarzenegger played in the original 1987 Predator.
If the script details revealed by Latino Review are accurate, he’ll be playing a character named Royce. Read more about that here.
Brody, an Oscar winner for his role in Roman Polanski’s The Pianist, apparently lobbied for the part.
He will join Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali and Louiz Ozawa, who have all been cast.
Predators will hit screens July 7, 2010.
Walter Goggins (The Bourne Identity / Shanghai Noon / House of 1000 Corpses) has been cast in director Nimrod Antal’s Predators, according to a report on Coming Soon.
Though Goggins has appeared in a number of movies, he is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Detective Shane Vendrell in 89 episodes of The Shield.
The first details on the story premise for director Nimrod Antal’s Predators have been revealed thanks to Latino Review who managed to score a peek at the draft screenplay dated July 12, 2009.
They’ve compiled a pretty cool video to present a summary of what they read and their thoughts, which you can watch here. Alternatively, I’ve extracted a summary of their report which you can read after the jump.
Whether you read or watch the video, I suggest a big spoiler warning is necessary as the summary gives away a fair chunk of the story.
The internet is flooding with reports that Danny Trejo, cult icon and star of the upcoming Machete, has been cast in Predators. The reports stem from a video interview that Trejo conducted at Horrorfind over the weekend.
When asked if he’ll be working on Predators, Trejo states, “Yeah, we’ll be doing Predator I think in about a month,” and then quickly calls actress Kristine Klebe over to the interview, indicating that by “we’re” he was referring to himself and Klebe.
Director Nimrod Antal’s Predators is gearing up. KNB Effects Group, whose effects include work on Transformers, The Chronicles of Narnia, Sin City, and the new Surrogates movie, are working on the design of the new look Predator(s) and the good news is they’re going back to the original Stan Winston design from the first Predator movie.
“I just saw some photos today and they look absolutely fantastic!”, says KNB executive Howard Berger who, back in the 80’s, got his start working with Stan Winston on Predator and Aliens.
Director Nimrod Antal will start shooting Predators on the 28th of September if all goes to plan for Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios.
According to a report on Bloody-Disgusting, the studio plans to kick off filming in Austin, Texas, where they are currently shooting Machete.
Producer Robert Rodriguez has confirmed to AICN that he has personally hand picked Nimrod Antal to direct Predators for 20th Century Fox.
Rodriguez says he became excited about Antal (Control / Vacancy) after seeing what he did with his latest film Armored, an action thriller due December 4, 2009.
“First of all,” Rodriguez says, “on a personal level I found him to be an outstanding presence, a great communicator full of ideas, and upon meeting him you can immediately understand how he is able to wrangle cast and crew and get the best out of everyone. I always loved Kontroll, where he proved himself to be a very resourceful and original filmmaker. When I saw Armored, I could tell he’s also great with action and has a keen eye for casting. He reminded me of Quentin with how he was able to work with a group of very strong, singular actor talents and make it look effortless. I know he’ll be able to get the most out of what we want to be an outstanding cast. We really want to go with a character driven action movie, because that’s what we all remember about the original Predator, and we want to take it even further with this. ”
Predators is a sequel to Predator and Predator 2 that is said to follow a team of commando’s as they face down multiple Predators. The script is being written by Alex Litvak, a relatively unknown writer. Until now, rumor had it that Litvak would be reworking an original story written some fifteen years ago by Rodriguez himself that was deemed too epic to produce at that time. Rodrigues has now confirmed that story.
“When Alex Young at Fox contacted me about re-inventing the franchise using my original draft as a template for getting as far away as possible from the AVP movies, I jumped on it,’ Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez plans to do to the Predator franchise with Predators what James Cameron did to the Alien franchise with Aliens. It’s a tall order, but as a long time Predator fan I can’t wait to see what he comes up with.
“As to how this movie will be viewed, one of the guys at Fox told me ‘No one is ever going to talk about AVP again after this film, I will stake my life on it.’”
