Duncan Jones’ Moon has stormed the 42nd Sitges Film Festival of Catalonia.
Though going up against excellent competition such as Mr. Nobody, Enter the Void and Zombieland, Jones’ much revered story managed to pull in the awards for ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Actor’ (Sam Rockwell), ‘Best Screenplay’ (Nathan Parker), ‘Best Art Direction’ (Tony Noble).
Perhaps most interesting is that Jones himself didn’t pull in the ‘Best Director’ award, which went to Brillante Mendoza for Kinatay. Nonetheless, congratulations to Duncan Jones for a brilliant film that is receiving appropriate recognition.
Vincenzo Natali’s Splice also premiered there to big applause, and subsequently won the Sitges’ coveted ‘Best F/X’ award.

Watch a pretty cool featurette on Vincenzo Natali’s new science fiction movie Splice.
It includes interviews with cast and crew, an exclusive clip from the film (which we previously posted here), and a deeper, perhaps more disturbing message about how the sci-fi of Splice is closer to reality than fiction.

The first ever clip from Vincenzo Natali’s new sci-fi horror flick Splice has been released.
Splice follows Elsa (Sarah Polley) and Clive (Adrian Brody), two young scientists who defy legal and ethical boundaries by splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. The newly created creature, named “Dren”, rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators – only to have that bond turn deadly.
The film also stars David Hewlett (aka Doctor McKay) of Stargate: Atlantis fame.

I probably know less about Vincenzo Natali’s new science fiction movie Splice than I do about James Cameron’s Avatar, and that’s really saying something. But those familiar with Natali’s work, most notably the excellent Cube, should be eager to see it. If not, you will be after you see these amazing looking images from the new film.
Splice is a kind of Frankenstein story.
