Casting Underway for Star Wars: The Television Series

Rose Byrne as Dormé in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones

Rose Byrne as Dormé in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones

It’s no secret that George Lucas has been planning a live-action television series based upon Star Wars for some time.  But it does come as surprising news to unofficially hear that casting is already under way.

According to a report on MTV, Australian actress Rose Byrne was attending a promotional event for her new movie, Knowing (in which she plays Diana Wayland opposite Nicolas Cage), where she let slip that a lot of her friends had already auditioned for roles with Team Lucas.

From MTV:

Bryne couldn’t have been more pleased about her time working with Lucas on 2002’s “Attack of the Clones.” “My experience was wonderful,” she said. “George is a great guy. I was just there for a week, standing behind Natalie [Portman] looking very demure and supportive. 95% of the fan mail I get is from ‘Star Wars’ and I’ve never seen them.”

As much as she enjoyed the “Star Wars” experience, Byrne, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for her work on FX’s “Damages,” will not be auditioning for the live-action series. “I’m on a show,” she said. “I don’t know if I look that good in space.”

Byrne appeared as Dormé in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones but will apparently not be auditioning for the live action television series.

Star Wars: The Television Series (by the way, that’s not it’s name, only what I’m calling it until such time as it’s official name is announced), will chronicle the events of the Rebel Alliance as they take place between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. It’s been said no major characters from the movies will appear in the series – no Jedi’s, no Darth Vader, but apparently there will be Storm Troopers.

No release schedule (or anything else for that matter) has been announced.

The R2D2 Interactive Astromech Droid is Just Too Cool

Star Wars Interactive R2D2 Astromech Droid

Star Wars Interactive R2D2 Astromech Droid

I love looking at the coolest collectibles around, but I only spare my time to post about the really cool stuff – and the Star Wars R2D2 Interactive Astromech Droid certainly qualifies as super cool.

He’s a little smaller than the real (fictional) R2D2, but unlike the real R2D2 he actually obeys your every command (well, mostly).

Want to know how? Then watch the video (after the jump) of R2D2 in action.

New 12inch Sandtrooper from Sideshow Collectibles

Star Wars Sandtrooper CollectibleStar Wars fans don’t miss out!

If you’re a fan of Star Wars and you’re into collectibles, you’ll want to get your order in on this one early because if it’s anything like the previous Sandtrooper design, its going to be sold out long before it ships.

Forming a part of the Military series of Star Wars collectibles, the Sandtrooper sports a 12inch and fully articulated armored body statue.  It comes with the finest detail in armor design together with shoulder pouches, belt pouches, an MG-15 Rifle, and 12-inch Figure Display Base with the Star Wars logo.

It’s not a bad price at US $109.99, but it won’t ship until the 3rd Quarter of 2009, so if you want one, order it now or say goodbye to the opportunity.  If anything I’ve learned, it’s that these babies don’t stay on the market for long.

Go here to check out more images of the Sandtrooper.

Or, maybe a Sandtrooper’s not your style, and you’d rather dress up your collection with a Stormtrooper Commander?  There’s only 1500 of those in the Stormtrooper Limited Edition series, and they’re shipping a little earlier than the Sandtroopers.

Go check out the image gallery for the Stormtrooper Commander here.

Star Wars Landspeeder – and it’s real

A seriously talented fan of Star Wars has produced what can only be described as one of the coolest things ever made: a working version of the Landspeeder as used by Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars movie. According to creator/owner Daniel Deutsch, the Landspeeder is a fibreglass replica build on an aluminium chassis with an electrical drive system that can make it up to 25 mph. Though its not fast, the speeder can travel several miles on one charge – that’s several miles of cool..no very cool travel. Visit www.reallandspeeder.com to see images and movies of Deutch’s creation.

All we’re waiting for now is for this to get further development to increase its speed and distance and then sign us up.
