‘Supernatural’ Season 5 to End With a Bang

Supernatural

I’ve had numerous requests to add Supernatural to the line up of shows that I write about and so I’ve decided it’s time.

Unfortunately the first article I’ve got for you is the news that the show’s days are numbered.

Mark Pellegrino Cast In ‘Supernatural’

Mark Pellegrino cast in 'Supernatural'

Mark Pellegrino as Jacob in 'Lost'

Warning – Spoiler

Mark Pellegrino is an actor whose name is beginning to find itself associated with all things cool on television.  First he was cast in Dexter, then as the pivotal character Jacob in Lost, and now he’s been cast as the ultimate enemy of the brothers in Supernatural.

Yes, Pelligrino has been cast as the devil himself in what is listed as a recurring character.  But before you get too excited word is he won’t be a series regular which will probably ease the concerns of Lost fans over his involvement with the upcoming sixth and final season.

Pelligrino will make his debut as Lucifer in the premiere episode of the new (fifth) season of Supernatural when it airs September 10th on the CW Network.

Smallville Gets Rescheduled To Doomsday

Smallville

The CW Network issued a press release today unveiling their 2009-2010 schedule – and the news isn’t so hot for Smallville fans.

The network has moved Smallville to the 8:00-9:00pm death-slot on Fridays.  The long running super-hero series will now be pitted against Fox’s Brothers and ‘Til Death, CBS’s Ghost Whisperer, and every other possible attraction that people gravitate to at the end of the work week.

“Moving Smallville to Fridays gives us a major player with a loyal fan base to kick off the night,” the network said.  We tend to think that’s code for, “It’s unlikely Smallville will get another season.”

If Smallville’s ninth season is its last fans of Stargate SG-1 will probably rejoice.  Stargate SG-1 holds the record for the longest running sci-fi series in North America.  Smallville would need a tenth season to take the title.  Of course, just because Smallville has been moved to Friday’s doesn’t automatically mean a tenth season won’t eventuate.   Still, it’s probably fair to say CW’s move certainly hasn’t helped the cause.

The new schedule also confirms new vampire series The Vampire Diaries will air at 8:00-9:00pm on Thursday, pitting it against Fox’s Bones and CBS’s Survivor.

The Vampire Diaries will lead into Supernatural which has the unenviable task of competing with Fox’s Fringe and CBS’s CSI.

Today’s sci fi news in a nutshell

SupernaturalA couple of days ago I wrote a single post covering all the sci fi related news of the day.  That seemed to work well from both a writing and reading perspective.  What I might try from hereon is writing one post to cover the bulk of the news of the day and individual posts for specific, mind blowing news.  That way you’ll know if it’s a post on Sci Fi Scoop it’s of value because it will either contain a decent summary of the day’s sci fi news or something big and worthy of its own post.
