Earlier this month at a Los Angeles bankruptcy hearing Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek’s Halcyon Holding Group, the producers behind Terminator Salvation, were granted a breather to continue operating and, in turn, to continue with the opportunity to develop Terminator 5.
On the verge of closing down at the beginning of September 2009, the ruling granted them access to much needed cash in the form of some $2.1M in tax rebates and gave them the right to seek additional cash collateral to finance continued operations.
The LA Times are now reporting that Halcyon have engaged financial advisory firm FTI Capital Advisors to handle their financial strategy going forward.

Although Terminator Salvation was initially intended to be the first part of a new Terminator trilogy, its performance at the domestic US box office led many to question whether a fifth Terminator film would happen.
Then, to everyone’s surprise, the film gunned it on the international circuit, almost doubling Star Trek’s foreign take to hit a reasonable box office haul of $341M worldwide. That led to speculation that Terminator 5 might be back on the agenda – and it seems it is, with director McG now confirming Terminator 5 is being worked on as we speak.

Initially struggling in the US, Terminator Salvation has now cracked the $300M mark thanks to a super-strong international showing.
The fourth Terminator movie earned $18.4M over the weekend to raise its international earnings to $200M. Combined with the post weekend US domestic tally of $119.5M the McG flick is now at $319.5M worldwide.
Star Trek drew $1.9M over the weekend internationally to raise its foreign haul to $122.2M. With a $239.4M domestic tally, Star Trek remains a little over $40M ahead of Terminator Salvation. With Terminator Salvation still to be released in Mexico (July 31) it may yet overtake Star Trek’s total gross when both film’s theatrical releases are done.
Although the post weekend news is good news for Terminator fans, a box office comment would be remiss if it didn’t mention the fact that the real no.1 movie in the foreign market on the weekend was Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The sequel to Transformers stole the number one box office from Terminator Salvation with a reported $20M haul.
Predictions that Terminator Salvation will catch Star Trek must, of course, factor in this week’s looming wide release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
The Michael Bay special effects extravaganza is already no.1 in foreign markets even though it only premiered in two territories (Japan & UK). It outperformed the original’s opening weekend by 71% in the U.K. and 13% in Japan and it has already sold out theaters in the US with advanced ticket sales.
There is no doubt Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be the center of attention from hereon and both Terminator Salvation and Star Trek can expect to feel a dent in ticket sales as a result.

Terminator Salvation continued to do wonders for Sony over the weekend by staying on top of the international box office with an estimated $46.1 million dollar haul. The film stole the no.1 spot in 30 different countries.
The fourth Terminator film is now heading towards cracking the $300M mark having raked in $165.5 million on the international circuit and $113M on the US circuit.
Although Star Trek is currently the highest grossing movie of 2009 as a result of a dominating US box office performance, Terminator Salvation has now well and truly eclipsed it on the international circuit with Star Trek’s international tally beginning to level out at $119M.
Further, Star Trek has now exhausted its release territories whilst Terminator Salvation has yet to be released in Mexico, one of the top 10 international markets. Although Star Trek’s total haul is still a way off (currently around $350M), the possibility remains that Terminator Salvation could eclipse Star Trek’s overall gross sometime in August (after its Mexican release on July 31).

Great news for Terminator fans. Terminator Salvation has raked in $67.5M across 66 territories over the weekend giving it a dominating rule of the international box office.
It more than doubled the earnings of its closest rival Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian ($26.7M).
Terminator Salvation also nabbed the third biggest weekend take in the international market for 2009 to date, trailing only Angels and Demons and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
It scored the 10th biggest opening in history for a Hollywood film in Russia with $8M.
Additionally, with a total international haul of $97.2M Terminator Salvation’s foreign box office is now only $8M short of the US domestic total and is sure to surpass it by the end of this week.
It is now running 21% ahead of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines for the same territories at the same point and Sony note that T3 went on to earn $283M internationally (more than double the US take).
Domestic and International tallies have now exceeded the film’s reported $200M budget.
The chances that we might be fortunate to get Terminator 5 just went up.
