Brian Austin Green (aka Derek Reese in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) has confirmed his desire to play the Green Lantern after Robert Sanchez of IESB.net quite accurately told him during a recent interview, “You have the look, you’ve got the square jaw.”
“The first person who ever said that to me was Megan [Fox],” Green replied.
When asked if he’d put any feelers out to score the role, he confirmed he had.
“We have, the response has been they’ve got names in mind but I am hoping to get in and meet with the producers and I’m gonna push for it like Tobey Maguire. Push for it. That’s all I can do.”
Green’s performance in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicle’s has demonstrated he has the presence and acting ability to take on such an iconic role as Hal Jordan (aka the Green Lantern) – and he certainly looks the part. He’s also a huge Green Lantern fan himself which is sure to go down well with fellow Green Lantern fans. When asked what superhero film he’s most excited to see:
“Lantern, Green Lantern. I had like Green Lantern action figures and shit when I was a kid.”
There are a number of rumors floating around as to who will score the coveted lead role in DC Comics’ much talked about comic adaptation. Chris Pine is a favorite (and has previously confirmed he’s been in talks for the role) and even Sam Worthington has been rumored to be a leading contender. As it stands however all names associated to the role remain rumor.
If DC Comics decide to include Brian Austin Green as the Green Lantern, then sign me up for a ticket. Right now I can’t think of anyone more suited.
The Green Lantern will be directed by Martin Campbell (The Legend of Zorro / Casino Royale) and is currently scheduled for release 17 December 2010.

In an interview with Paul Fischer from Dark Horizons, director/writer/producer John Hamburg has confirmed that Green Lantern will commence filming in Australia mid-September 2009.
From Dark Horizons :
Question: You have a number of films in development that I’ve got to talk to you about. So, let’s start off with Green Lantern. What’s the status on that?
De Line: The status is, funnily enough, we are leaving for Australia Wednesday night with Martin Campbell, our director, to go scout in Sydney and Melbourne, and we plan on starting to shoot mid-September in Australia.
Question: Do you have a complete cast, as yet?
De Line: No. We don’t have a soul cast.
Question: And the focus going to be on what aspect of the original – you know, are you going back to the roots of the TV show? Or, where do you start with that movie?
De Line: Well, you know, there have been many variations of The Green Lantern, and different characters. Our story is the Hal Jordan version of The Green Lantern.

Green Lantern remains scheduled for a 17 December 2010 release.

Green Lantern will have more of an Iron Man tone than Dark Knight
According to producer Donald De Line, Warner Bros. new big budget super-hero film, Green Lantern, is ramping up production.
In an interview with Collider, De Line confirmed that the new movie has hired its production and costume designers and is scouting for filming locations in Australia.
De Line also confirmed the movie won’t be dark in tone like The Dark Knight but instead will be more like Iron Man.
He also hinted that DC have a large agenda as far as comic book movies go, and that agenda may include crossing over with other super-heroes in much the same way as Marvel are presently doing.
Green Lantern is scheduled for release 17 Dec 2010.

Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation
Latino Review were the first to report that Anton Yelchin was in talks to play The Green Lantern. The internet went crazy over it, with some fans liking the idea, but most screaming blue murder that Yelchin was too young.
Yelchin has now confirmed at Wondercon that it was all a rumor.
Sci Fi Wire posted:
“I had no idea about that,” Yelchin said while promoting his upcoming Terminator Salvation, in which he plays a young Kyle Reese.
His Terminator co-star, Bryce Dallas Howard, chimed in: “He was talking about that on the plane! He’s like, where do these come from?”
“I have no clue,” Yelchin added. “I have no idea. I think I’m probably too young. I mean, no ones approached me, no one’s said anything to me. So I imagine I’m just too young. I mean, it’s a great character but i don’t know anything about it. … I haven’t heard anything about it.”
Whilst remotely interesting (and sometimes hilarious), and although I was 99.9% certain that in the case of the Yelchin story it was a rumor, I’m beginning to wonder about the point of posting anything that isn’t officially confirmed…

Anton Yelchin to play The Green Lantern?
Latino Review have created a buzz with an article that identifies young actor Anton Yelchin as being under consideration for the lead role in The Green Lantern.
The Green Lantern would offer him his first lead role in a major feature film. He joins Juliet Landau who is on the rumor list to play LaBella.
Yelchin is beginning to make it big time in Hollywood, having scored the pivotal role of Kyle Reese in Terminator: Salvation and as Pavel Chekov in Star Trek XI. But this hasn’t stopped the response to the rumor from being mostly unfavorable. It seems fans consider him to be too young and too short (he’s 5′9″). But if I remember rightly, a lot of people complained when Heath Ledger was handed the role of The Joker… Still, remember, it’s just a rumor….
Martin Campbell is now officially the director at the helm of the big-screen adaptation of DC Comics Green Lantern. Campbell’s previews directorial efforts include Casino Royale, Golden Eye and The Legend of Zorro amongst others.
Michael Green is behind the screenplay. Green is best known for his 2006-2007 writing work on NBC’s Heroes. He is also the writer behind the upcoming NBC modern-medieval-magic drama, Kings.
No cast members are attached to the project at this time.
Green Lantern is loosely scheduled for release sometime in 2011.
Caprica - In what I think is a brilliant move, Caprica is coming to DVD before it will air on the Sci Fi Channel. I’d be hazarding a guess that it will be a huge success and no doubt lead to future premieres being slated for DVD before airing. It’s a good move for the fans, and a good move to test the viability of a potential new series. Not that that really matters for Caprica which has already had its first season green-lit. It will be available in April.
Dollhouse – Joss Whedon has stated he intends his new Sci Fi series Dollhouse to make viewers uncomfortable. Whedon has said, “Part of the mandate of the show is to make people nervous, to make them identify with people they don’t like and get into situations they don’t approve of and also look at some of the heroic side of things and wonder if maybe they were wrong about what motivated those as well.” I like the sound of that. Dollhouse premieres on Feb 13.
Green Lantern – Casino Royale director Martin Campbell is in negotiations with Warner Bros to direct the Green Lantern live-action feature film. Although many people thought this movie was on hold and would possibly never be made, it seems Warner Bros are intent on moving it forward. The script has been remodeled something like three times, and according to Michael Green (the third screenwriter) Warner Bros is now happy with the script. Green told IGN, “Warner Bros. doesn’t do green-lights the way a lot of places do. They sort of always inch towards it, so there’s never a day where they’re like, ‘Boom! Magic bomb! We’re green-lit!’ But we’ve had very good conversations with them. From what I’m told, they really like the last script we gave them and are hoping to find a way to make it, which would be thrilling.” If Campbell can make a super hero movie with action like the opening ten minutes of Casino Royale, then I’m all for it. However the rest of Casino Royale makes me worry… Read the rest of this entry »
