As many have expected, a single day record of $67.2 million, held previously by The Dark Knight, has been beaten by The Twilight Saga: New Moon. It has earned $72.7 million on Friday, the premier day – that’s a new single day record!
The Twilight Saga: New Moon has also beaten midnight opening record with $26.27 million, as reported in the previous news post.
It seems The Twilight Saga: New Moon is one hot movie in Germany, reports Variety.
Tickets went on sales at midnight on Saturday, and within a few hours demand had exceeded the entire volume of available pre-sales tickets. The battle to score tickets sent servers crashing across the country as online ticket buyers swarmed ticket selling websites.
Within a day ticket pre-sales for the film had sold 150,000 tickets, shattering all previous German records.
“The idea for a purely online presale in the early hours was a huge success,” said Thomas Schuelke, marketing director for the UCI Kinowelt, one of the ticket pre-sales chains. “Our servers experienced some incredible pressure.”
The Twilight Saga: New Moon premieres on November 16, then hits theaters November 20.
