ABC have released a ton of promotional images from V – their remake of the 1980’s sci-fi series of the same name.

V re-imagines the original series’ premise of a world that wakes up to find spaceships over every major city. The Visitors claim to have come in peace, bringing gifts of medical miracles and technological breakthroughs. They promise to do no harm. The story follows Homeland Security agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) who stumbles upon the Visitor’s true plans – that the aliens intend to infiltrate our governments and businesses towards ultimately controlling mankind.

The new series boasts an all-star cast including Lost’s Elizabeth Mitchell (aka Juliet), Joel Gretsch (The 4400 / Minority Report / Push), Scott Wolf (Double Dragon / White Squall / Party of Five), Morena Baccarin (Firefly / Serenity / Stargate SG-1) and lan Tudyk (Firefly).

ABC Green-Lights ‘V: The Series’

Morena Baccarin

It looks like the pilot for the remake of the 1980’s sci-fi series V must be pretty good because ABC have now green-lit a full series.

According to Variety the series will be a ‘Limited Event’ with some sources reporting that ‘Limited Event’ means the series will comprise only six episodes.  However subsequent to those reports The Hollywood Reporter adds that the limited episode run was speculation with the series looking more likely to comprise 13 episodes.

The new series boasts an all-star cast including Lost’s Elizabeth Mitchell (aka Juliet), Joel Gretsch (The 4400 / Minority Report / Push), Scott Wolf (Double Dragon / White Squall / Party of Five), Morena Baccarin (Firefly / Serenity / Stargate SG-1) and lan Tudyk (Firefly).

V: The Series comes from scribe Scott Peters.  Peters’ previous work includes such notable series as The 4400, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Outer Limits and Jericho.

We’ve been waiting for approval of the series since we heard about the development of the pilot and the possibility of a feature film from the original series creator Kenny Johnson (who is not associated with the pilot or tv series).  With the pilot in the can and the series on its way, all we’re waiting on now is confirmation that the feature film is a go.

The pilot for V: The Series will air on the NBC later this year.  It remains unknown when the first episode of the series will air.

V: The Series’ Firefly Connections

Alan Tudyk as Hoban 'Wash' Washburne in 'Firefly'

Alan Tudyk as Hoban 'Wash' Washburne in 'Firefly'

Alan Tudyk, who plays Dale Maddox in ABC’s pilot remake of the 1980’s sci-fi series V, has told reporters that the visual effects in V: The Series are being handled by legendary Zoic Studio’s

Zoic were the masters behind the effects in Battlestar Galactica, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Firefly and their work can be seen episode to episode in Fringe (to name just a few of the many series they work on).  You can check out stills of their effects in our interview with Andrew Orloff from Zoic Studio’s here.

“It’s really awesome effects,” Tudyk said. “The effects are done by Zoic who did Firefly. Zoic does all the spacecrafts. Anything requiring digital enhancement is Zoic, and they do a great job.”

The connections between the V: The Series and Firefly don’t stop with Zoic.  Tudyk himself previously starred in the popular Joss Whedon series as Hoban ‘Wash’ Washburne.

“Then, of course, Morena Baccarin is in it,” Tudyk continues,”and she’s the leader of the aliens, so you can’t get any better than that.”

Morena Baccarin played Inara Serra alongside Tudyk in Firefly and the feature film Serenity.

Don’t get too excited about an on screen reunion though as the two don’t meet in the pilot for V: The Series.

“No, but we got to hang out, and that was cool,” Tudyk said.

Although Tudyk says the pilot is “really good”, ABC has yet to green-light a full series.

Morena Baccarin leads the alien invasion in V: The Series

Morena Baccarin has scored a lead role in ABC’s new alien invasion series, V: The Series.

Baccarin is well known for her work in the science fiction genre.  She played Inara Serra in Joss Whedon’s Firefly and Serenity. She also appeared as the super-powered Adria in Stargate SG-1.  Most recently she reprised the character of Adria in the made-for-dvd movie, Stargate: The Ark of Truth.

Baccarin will play the leader of the reptilian alien invaders – a pivotal role that will no doubt see her go head to head with the character to be played by Scott Wolf (Double Dragon / White Squall / Party of Five).

I couldn’t think of a better actress for the role.
