Could we get V:The Movie as well as V:The Series?

v_the_movie

Hot on the heels that a re-make of 80’s sci-fi series V was underway and that Scott Wolf was set to star in it comes a whiff of news that a full length V feature film may also be on the cards.

The original creator of the V television series, Kenny Johnson, is not associated with the modern remake.  To find out his feelings on the new series, Unlikely Words tracked him down and found out a little bit of information about Johnson’s intention to produce a feature film.  From Unlikely Words:

You are correct that I am not involved with the new ABC/Warners TV pilot based on my original premise of V.  I understand that their “re-imagined” take is quite different. The guys involved are gentlemen and I wish them well.

I own the motion picture rights to V and have turned down offers from several major studios whose vision of V as a movie doesn’t correspond to my own.  We are currently working to set up V as an independent feature.

My prime desire is to bring big-screen production values to the new V movie while carefully protecting the timeless story, the characters, quality, integrity and substance that make my original V such a favorite of worldwide audiences and a critically acclaimed, international landmark.

I’m looking forward to seeing V:The Series.  I’m now also hoping for V:The Movie.   Let’s hope Johnson gets his wish.

Scott Wolf set to star in ‘V: The Series’

It looks like Scott Wolf (Double Dragon / White Squall / Party of Five ) will star in ABC’s reboot of the 1980’s sci-fi series, V: The Series.

According to Michael Ausiello:

It’s believed the Party of Five alum will play the role of Ryan, an extremely good-looking dude who’s harboring a deep, dark secret from his girlfriend.

Perhaps his deep dark secret will be that he’s one of the reptilian aliens…

V: The Series is being written for Warner Bros. Television by Scott Peters, who has worked on notable series such as The 4400, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Outer Limits, and Jericho.

Womb, V, Powers, Terminator 4, Transformers 2, The Flash

Evan Green to star in Womb

Womb – Hungarian director Benedek Fliegauf is set to direct the sci fi drama Womb, his first English-language film.  The film follows a grieving widow, played by Eva Green (Casino Royale / The Golden Compass) as she clones her late husband.  The film will also co-star the new Doctor Who, Matt Smith.  Production will commence on Womb in March.

V: The Series – With the news that famed sci fi series V will be returning to the small screen, io9 have apparently managed to feast their eyes upon the script.  Their verdict: optimistic.  If you’re into spoilers, head on over and have a read of what they had to say here.

Powers – A new super hero television series is on the way based upon Briand Bendis and Mike Oeming’s comic book, PowersPowers tells the story of two detectives who investigate homicides related to superhumans – and one of the detectives used to be a super hero.  Apparently Bendis is also writing the screenplay which is promising.  Don’t hold your breath though, it won’t be for a while yet. In a World of Re-Makes and Re-Imaginings, ‘V’ is Next

V It’s been more than 25 years since the release of the original series and now the word is official – a ‘reworking’ of the 1980’s alien invasion series V is coming to the small screen.  It will be titled V: The Series.

If you remember the original series – and I most definitely do to the point that some twenty years ago I spray painting a big red V on my school books – you’d remember that the aliens who come to Earth pretend to be our humanoid friends but in due course are discovered to be lizards from a dying planet that are here to steal our resources and eat us.  They fail.  A year later a second V series was released in which the aliens try again.

The original series starred Marc Singer as the hero, Mike Donovan, who leads the resistance against the aliens.  Singer has also starred in a heap of television series and movies, but apart from V he is perhaps most remembered for his starring role in the 1982 fantasy-action movie, The Beastmaster.  There’s no word on actors for the new series just yet, but apparently the new story will take place twenty years after the end of the previous series.  I’m guessing this opens the door to a possible reprisal of his character, at least in bit part.  Or perhaps I just started a rumor.

One person who definitely won’t be involved is the original series creator, Kenneth Johnson.  Instead, the new script is being written by Scott Peters who is well known for his work on The 4400 and less known for directing the first episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

V: The Series will air on the NBC in 2009.  This is one many people will be eagerly awaiting.
