Zombieland gave Woody Harrelson his biggest North American box office opening of his career and has more than doubled its $23.6M budget in US domestic box office takings alone ($47.8M) – and 90% of its international rollout has yet to occur.

Six months ago we learned that Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese had handed a first draft Venom screenplay to Sony. Two weeks ago we heard the writers had completed a second draft and that Sony was moving ahead on the film.
Now the news is Spider-Man 4 scribe Gary Ross has been hired to rewrite the script, although some news sites are reporting that Ross will write the script from scratch. The word is Ross is also in talks to potentially direct the Spidey spinoff.
No further details are known at this stage, except to say the film is expected to be released sometime in 2012, after Spider-Man 4 hits screens on May 6, 2011.
