Battlestar Galactica movie given greenlight

The Sci Fi Channel have announced a Battlestar Galactica movie is in the works and will be released in 2009.  The movie will premiere on Sci Fi after the last half of the fourth and final season ends in 2009, before finding its way to DVD.   It will be written by Battlestar Galactica co-executive producer Jane Espenson and directed by Edward James Olmos.  The movie is, however, a prequel, and seems like it will center primarily on the Cylons as they attack Caprica but things don’t go as planned – all the humans are not wiped out.   The movie will focus on the efforts of the Cyclons to deal with unplanned survivors, and will no doubt provide a deeper explanation of the Cylons ‘plan’ that the opening credits of the series have alluded to.  Confirmed stars are Dean Stockwell (Cylon Cavil), Michael Trucco (Sam Anders) and Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol).

If it has the words ‘Battlestar Galactica’ in it I’ll be keenly waiting, but I have to add, why the constant prequels?  It would be great, just for once, if one of the Battlestar movies took place in the future, so that we had no idea what was going to happen.  I suppose we’ll just have to wait for the last half of season four…
