‘Battlestar Galactica’ Symphonic Concert Event

Stu Phillips Battlestar Galactica Concert Event

If you live in Los Angeles then this one is for you.  On October 24th, the Golden State Pops Orchestra will be hosting a special symphonic concert to pay tribute to original Battlestar Galactica composer Stu Phillips to commemorate his 80th birthday. The event will be performed by a full orchestra and will take place on only one night.

Stu Phillips will be in attendance to conduct his scores to Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers and Star Trek.

Also, the event will host the premiere of John Ottman’s suite from the new film Astro Boy – arranged and conducted by GSPO’s assistant conductor, Jason Livesay.

Further, Battlestar Galactica series composer Bear McCreary will also be in attendance and will conduct his new arrangement of Stu Phillips’ classic Battlestar Galactica theme!  McCreary’s piece will be a combination of the various moments in his series scores in which he quoted Stu Phillips’ music, drawing from the ‘Colonial Anthem’ BSG theme from Season 2, ‘Husker in Combat’” from Razor and, ‘The Heart of the Sun’ from the final episode.

Both Bear McCreary and Stu Phillips will also be signing CD’s and other goodies.

Richard Hatch and other as yet unidentified BSG alums will be there too!

Also, this information was sourced from Bears Battlestar Blog where Bear McCreary has also posted an interesting personal interview with Stu Phillips himself.  If you’re a film score fan you’ll find it quite interesting as the two talk about scores to Battlestar Galactica, Knight Rider, Buck Rogers and more.
