Tell Me About The Music In The Star Trek Trailer
Here’s the low down on the music behind the Star Trek trailer that everyone seems to love.
The Star Trek Featurette trailer contains music from a track titled ‘War Begins’ that was composed for the miniseries Children of Dune by Brian Tyler. Tyler is of course not the music composer behind Star Trek (it is Michael Giacchino who scored Speed Racer, The Incredibles and a host of others. His music is not in the trailers).
Here’s the featurette trailer so you know which one I’m referring to:
Then there’s the second Star Trek trailer. This one features a specially written custom score titled ‘Down With The Enterprise’ by a group called ‘Two Steps From Hell‘. Two steps from hell is the group name for composers Thomas Bergersen and Nick Phoenix who specialize primarily in music trailers. Their custom score begins after the boy says “My name is “James…Kirk” and was written specifically for this trailer.
Then there’s the third Star Trek trailer which also contains music by ‘Two Steps From Hell‘. In the third trailer, the track is from their ‘Legend collection’ and is titled ‘Freedom Fighters’. Here’s the trailer in question:

Do you want to buy yourself copies of the music featured in the second and third Star Trek trailers? Well I do too, but I’m sorry to say we you can’t. Two Steps From Hell don’t sell their work commercially – they only licence it for use in projects such as movie trailers.
But you can buy the music from the Star Trek Featurette. You can also hear a snippet of it by listening to the mp3 clips on Amazon for the Children of Dune soundtrack by Brian Tyler. It’s a great soundtrack irrespective of the Star Trek connection. Click the image below to head to Amazon’s Children of Dune page to have a listen.
